On June 8-10 2018, brothers throughout Section NE-5 joined together in their annual conclave for a weekend of trainings, fun and fellowship at Resica Falls Scout Reservation. All of the lodges in attendance were in competition for the coveted Conclave Cup, which was awarded to the lodge that achieved the top scores for the events during the weekend. Section NE-5 is comprised of 11 lodges, including Unami, Ajapeu, Lenape, Lenapehoking, Woapalanne, Witauchsoman, Na Tsi Hi, Lowwapaneu, Japeechen, Black Eagle and Yokahu. Unfortunately Black Eagle (Transatlantic Council) and Yokahu (Puerto Rico Council) were unable to attend this year’s Conclave.

Friday night’s opening campfire began with a message from the 2018 National Chief, Anthony Peluso. He spoke about the Philmont Scout Ranch and told stories about his trek there. Both Anthony and the NE-5 Section Chief Jeremy Bedient began to speak about what inspired them to get involved with lodge leadership and begin serving their fellow Arrowmen within the Order of the Arrow (OA). After their speeches, the attendees enjoyed the evening meal offered at the evening cracker barrel.

Saturday Morning began with many diverse training cells. Arrowmen were trained in areas of communication, sustainability, Scouting history, Order of the Arrow High Adventure (OAHA) programs and ceremonies. Adults were trained in improving the youth experience, and were given an update on the latest OA program. The AIA village also taught about Eastern Woodland traditions and the Pre-Ordeal ceremony. In the afternoon, lodges competed in the first annual Conclave Cup which included games of volleyball, ultimate frisbee, human foosball, tug-of-war and Kan Jam. When asked about the variety of activities offered, Aiden C., a Unami staff member, said “there is a wide variety of games and activities to engage in fellowship with all my brothers from the lodges.” Saturday’s evening program began with a pow-wow, in which three lodges competed in the drumming competition, and five Arrowmen participated in the dancing competition.

The weekend concluded with the section business meeting along with the section officer elections. Awards were presented for the ceremonies, drumming, dancing competitions and to those who helped put the weekend together, while section youth and adult leaders were thanked for their service in the past year. The 2019 Section NE-5 Conclave theme was promoted as “Major League Baseball”, and will be hosted at Ockanickon Scout Reservation by the Ajapeu Lodge.
